Good book with much information, but you still must use the forums to get the latest data on Ubuntu Karmic.

good hands-on beginners manual
i'm not a computer professional so i was looking for something fairly basic to introduce me to linux. this was really easy to understand but i think there's enough material to make it useful for some time as i continue to use linux ubuntu. great place to start!

Thorough Ubuntu introduction
If you're wanting to get into Ubuntu, this is a good place to start. If you're not wanting to get into the gritty details, you could go with a less comprehensive title, but I think this puts a good balance on easy workability and a reference for whenever you want to work under the hood. I started out reading this book, more or less, from front to back, but when things got more detailed than I wanted, I just skipped ahead, which was at least half of the time. I'm probably 60% through the book, but I'm sure I've only read about 40% of the pages I've covered. I chose this book because at the time, I had perused a handful of Ubuntu how-to books at a local bookstore, and this was the only one that seemed to have step-by-step coverage of getting a wireless card to work, but then by the time I bought it, and was really getting into that problem, an update came from Ubuntu that solved the problem. So, my primary reason for buying the book in the first place was solved, but this is still a very good reference anyway. I'm certainly no expert on all the titles available, but for me, I can't imagine needing another Ubuntu reference.

Good Book!
I knew nothing about Ubuntu before reading this text, and it helped me alot. It will teach you everything you need to know as a beginner, and moderate user.

Easy to understand!
I was just a novice at Ubuntu before I read this book. Now I can move around in Ubuntu a great deal better than before I read the book. The book is easy to understand and subjects are easy to find. What more can you want. I highly recommend it. StephenSodaro.com
